We are seeking an Associate/Associate Director Transport Planner to become an integral part of our dynamic Transport team situated at our thriving Leicestershire office. Our Traffic and Transportation division is dedicated to offering our clients meticulously researched insights into the traffic implications of development proposals. We excel in devising solutions that eliminate or alleviate these impacts, leveraging analytical prowess and engineering expertise.

As a key member of our team, you'll report directly to one of our esteemed company Directors. In this role, you'll have the chance to lead your own team and collaborate with cross-functional teams, particularly on larger-scale projects. Your responsibilities will encompass the creation and successful execution of projects within stringent timelines, all while upholding the highest standards of technical excellence.


Your scope of influence will span a wide spectrum, ranging from conducting preliminary pre-acquisition feasibility studies to offering strategic guidance. You'll be involved in promoting Local Plans, preparing comprehensive reports for outline and detailed planning applications (including Transport Assessments/Statements, Travel Plans, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and preliminary access/junction improvement designs), as well as navigating the complexities of discharging planning conditions and planning appeals.

Job requirements

Key role responsibilities:

    • Management and development of the Transportation team, ensuring they liaise fully with clients, staff members, and statutory bodies;
    • Design project management, coordination with other disciplines/offices, client and Local Authority liaison, fee proposals and invoicing;
    • Review, check and approve design calculations, drawings and outputs prepared by by the team to ensure delivery of quality, accurate and efficient work, which has undergone rigorous checking procedures throughout the whole process. Ensure all team members follow the same procedures;
    • Working collaboratively with engineers and other technicians to deliver quality evidence-led reports by a variety of measures;
    • Business development and networking. Maintaining and growing existing client relationships, developing new opportunities and diversifying the range of commissions;
    • Cultivate and uphold elevated technical benchmarks, both on an individual level and within the T&T Department, by embracing industry "best practices" and embracing emerging technical advancements;
    • Implement high-quality and profitable design standards and solutions for clients and;
    • Research, development and implementation of technological innovations to aid continual growth and diversity.
    • The mentoring and supervision of Transport planning apprentices, technicians and engineers.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to present information in detail to Directors, senior management team, staff and clients;
    • Site visits for inspections or investigation work; attendance at meetings with team, clients and suppliers. Occasional requirement to attend events and meetings outside of normal office hours.

Key skills, experience and attributes required:

    • A minimum qualification of a degree in Transport Planning or similar;
    • Demonstrable senior experience within the Transport Planning field;
    • Proficient user of AutoCAD and related software, including swept path analysis;
    • Have the ability to prepare CAD drawings to a standard suitable for pre-planning purposes;
    • Use various computer software programs which will include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), AutoCAD and more specialist software including; PICADY/ARCADY (Junctions 9), LinSig, TRICS and TEMPro.
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of national and local planning and highways design standards and ability to interpret and communicate these policies effectively;
    • Ability to work within a team and also able to work under own initiative;
    • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload;
    • Staff management, team working and communication skills to liaise with colleagues and clients.
